Are you in the red or the black? This is a question my dad would ask me every year at Christmas. What he was really asking me was if I got what I wanted. He said he always wanted to make sure he was in the red. I didn’t fully understand what he meant when I was a child. It was more important for him to give better presents than he received. For him, the feeling of giving was his true gift.
How are you feeling this year?
Here are a couple of reasons to make charitable donations as an individual and part of your company culture.
- Helping others in need makes you feel more content and fulfilled. Research shows a link between these feelings and joy. And really, who couldn’t use just a little more joy?
- Giving to the community shows your customers you care. When customers see you are aligned with causes they also care about, they feel a deeper connection.
- But it’s not just your customers that feel warm fuzzies. You will create goodwill with your employees and build camaraderie among the different departments.
- Community connection builds brand awareness that leads to attracting and retaining employees.
- Social Conscience is the answer many people give when asked why they contribute. Moral duty goes a long way to keeping you on the Nice List but also teaches those around you the importance of helping others.
- Another reason corporations and individuals give to charitable organizations is to lower their taxable income.
